A SMILE TO BEGIN YOUR WEEK
A passenger in a taxi leaned over to ask the driver a question and tapped him on the shoulder. The driver screamed, lost control of the cab, nearly hit a bus, drove up over the curb, and stopped just inches from a large plate glass window. For a few moments everything was silent in the cab, and then the still shaking driver said, "I'm sorry, but you scared the daylights out of me."
The frightened passenger apologized to the driver and said he didn't realize a mere tap on the shoulder could frighten him so much. The driver replied, "No, no, I'm sorry, it's entirely my fault. Today is my first day driving a cab... I've been driving a hearse for the last 25 years."

DEVOTIONAL THOUGHT
In Romans chapter 15 the apostle Paul mentions at least three marvelous happenings in his life: 1) Gentiles came to belief, 2) signs and miracles accompanied his ministry, and 3) he himself preached the entire 1,400 miles from Jerusalem to Illyricum. Yet Paul takes no credit for this. Instead, he says Christ did it through him.
How contrary this is to the way things usually happen. More often we are like the Little Leaguer who puts all his sixty pounds into a ferocious swing and barely connects. The ball hits off the end of the bat and rolls softly back to the pitcher. But the pitcher's throw soars high over first baseman's head. The slugger then turns toward second as the right fielder retrieves the ball. But his throw sails wildly into left field. The hitter than swaggers to third base, puffing along with a grin from ear to ear, then continues to cross home plate. "Oh boy," he says, "that's the first home run I ever hit in my whole life!"
That is so like us, isn't it? We step up to the plate for Jesus, barely tip the ball, but He arranges for us to cross home plate-and we take all the credit! But not Paul. He made it very clear to the believers in Galatia: "May I never boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ." God was everything to Paul and with Christ at the center, Paul could only boast of Him.
If we are to have lives like Paul, our hearts must not only see our lives as entirely sacred, they must also give all glory to God.
PRAYER
Father, help me to boast only of Christ my Savior. Amen.
